Have been finding out clients do not know this law.

So why bring this this law?  In the state of Texas all notarial acts must be recorded in a "journal" book (yes, there are exceptions). More and more I am finding out that the general public does not know about the following law.

APR 22, 2007
Texas
ADMINISTRATIVE RULE — Prohibits a Notary Public (other than a court clerk) from recording in his/her official journal an ID card number from a state-approved identification card used by the Notary to positively identify the signer. This includes, but is not restricted to, driver’s license numbers and social security numbers.

What they are to do is record the address on the ID that was use, EXPIRATION DATE of said ID and what type of ID it was -- TX DL / passport / etc

A current fraud alert for folks from a friend of mine

"Warning! I was told this morning the my granddaughter who is away at college, received a phone call telling her that her Amex card had a lot of activity on it.

They wanted to verify her social security number, but she was going to a class and did not have the number with her. She called her parents in a panic because she does not have an Amex card. Long and short Dad investigated and it was a fraud. Very sophisticated but a fraud. They were trying to get her social security number over the phone. So, beware and NEVER give anyone your social security number over the phone."

So the point is this: When you get these types of calls try to get all the contact numbers, business address etc you can.  Then say "am sorry but we have to go right now" then contact the customer service number on the back of your card or the statement online to let the company know that you received this type of phone call.

Always So nice when you get a B2B referral !

I wanted to thank you for all you for our company. I have had so many problems with notaries not being professional that I have had to weed through a lot of people. I wanted to thank you for your professionalism with our clients. We spend more time with our borrowers on the phone so when I send a notary to the closing it is very important that the person I send be a professional/organized/friendly/knowledgeable notary since you are the face that represents our company.  Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you Tonie.
